Das Buch bietet erstmals ein pr�zisiertes Stemma der �berlieferung und eine darauf aufbauende Revision des griechischen Textes mit ausf�hrlichem Kommentarteil. Neu entzifferte Textpassagen des griechischen Palimpsests M (11. Jh.), einer der �ltesten erhaltenen griechischen Handschriften, werden ediert und in die Revision einbezogen. Ein umfassendes Kapitel widmet sich dem Nachweis der Sekundarit�t des von Philonenko herausgegebenen "Kurztextes", der sich als Produkt mittelalterlicher Abschreiber erweist.

Im zweiten Teil des Buches wird ein wichtiger Textzeuge, die im Mittelalter entstandene zweite lateinische �bersetzung, erstmals ediert und pal�ographisch-philologisch sowie kirchengeschichtlich untersucht. Sie �berliefert eine recht urspr�ngliche Fassung des Textes und ist eng mit den �ltesten Zeugen verwandt. Erhalten ist diese �bersetzung in sechs lateinischen Handschriften des 12./13. bis 15. Jh.s, die �berwiegend aus Kl�stern der sich im Mittelalter ausbreitenden Reformorden stammen.
