Journey to Recovery: A Return to the Self is a twelve step workbook to recover the person God created you to be, the person you may have lost along life's journey for reasons such as: abandonment, betrayal, pain, addictions, loss, etc. No matter what the circumstances were surrounding your birth, you were created as a unique person. We are all valuable, and God wants us to live up to our full potential. Chaplain Donna Junker wrote this workbook because "I care about people, about their recoveries, and because I strongly believe that faith in Jesus Christ can truly set us free; it did for me, so why would I not want to share that with others?"


As part of the process, the author will discuss stories of people she has met through her own journey to recovery. We all have a story. This twelve step workbook can be done in any time frame that works for you or your group, it is not meant to be completed in any particular time frame or schedule. You can work through them at your own pace (or at the pace of the group if you are working with others). Take your time and allow yourself to be open to ideas and concepts that perhaps are unfamiliar.

Recovery is not limited to addictions. Not all people suffer from addictions, but we all suffer from not always living as the people we want to be. Maybe you have tried recovery before and have failed; it's o.k. Let's try again, but this time, let's be completely open to God, rather than focusing only on ourselves. If you are unsure about God or maybe do not believe in Him at all, I ask you to have an open mind; what will it hurt? Maybe your dreams have been broken. A quote from the late British theologian, C.S. Lewis hangs in the author's house: "The key to broken dreams is to dream again." As we go through this journey to recovery, let's dream again...


Junker, Donna: - Donna Junker (née Kasik) has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from North Central College in Naperville, IL, a Master of Divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, IL., certification in Thanatology, certification in Christian Drug and Alcohol Counseling, as well as one year of Clinical Pastoral Education. She is an ordained chaplain through the World Council of Independent Christian Churches, and has six years experience working as the chaplain of a Rescue Mission, as well as many years working as a hospital and hospice chaplain. Chaplain Junker's passion is cultural studies and mission work. She taught short-term intensives for six years at a seminary in Kenya, East Africa, ministered at Mother Teresa's home for the dying in Calcutta, India, and worked at an AIDS hospice in Zambia, Southern Africa. Donna served in the Ministerial Association, and is active in her community and local church. A mother and grandmother, she lives in Kentucky with her husband, Dr. Paul Junker.
