Aufgrund der geographischen Lage, der enormen Nord-Süd-Ausdehnung und der topographischen Gegebenheiten treten insbesondere in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika und in Kanada ganzjährige klimatische Extremlagen auf. Zudem gehört Nordamerika aus klimatischer Sicht zu den wohl vielseitigsten Kontinenten der Erde, da dort fast alle möglichen Klimazonen der Erde anzutreffen sind. Im Verlaufe dieser Hausarbeit werden die klimatischen Einflüsse auf den Kontinent herausgearbeitet. Zum Einstieg erfolgen kurze Begriffsdefinitionen bezüglich der zu behandelten Thematik, was ist Klima und womit beschäftigt sich die Hydrogeographie. Anschlie end wird die Allgemeine Zirkulation der Atmosphäre anhand des idealisierten Modells nach Flohn erläutert. Basierend auf den typischen Eigenschaften von Luftmassen, werden dann diese in ihrer Verteilung und ihren Bewegungsbahnen auf Nordamerika untersucht. Darauf folgend wird deren Einfluss auf das nordamerikanische Klima analysiert, wobei ein besonderes Augenmerk auf den Bereich innerhalb der planetarischen Frontalzone liegt. Anhand von ausgewählten Klimadiagrammen werden die Ergebnisse vertieft. Temperatur- und Niederschlagskarten, sowie Messungen der Evapotranspiration sollen einen Überblick über die klimatischen Verhältnisse in Nordamerika geben. Die Trockengrenze, die einen bedeutsamen Einfluss auf die Landwirtschaft darstellt, wird anhand der klimatischen Wasserbilanz erläutert. Abschlie end wird eine Klimaklassifikation des Kontinents vorgenommen, um abschlie end einen vereinfachten Überblick der Klimaten zu erhalten. Im zweiten Teil der Hausarbeit wird ein hydrogeog
