WILLIAM STERN, der Altmeister der Kinderpsychologie, gehf in der dritten Auflage seiner "Psychologie der friihen Kindheit", die 1923 erschien, 13mal kritisch auf die Psychoanalyse ein. STERNS hauptsiichliche StoBrichtung ist methodenkritischer Art. 1m Vorderg und steht dabei das Giitekriterium der Objektivitiit, dessen Beachtung er z. B. bei der Auswertung von Kindheitserin- nerungen oder bei der Symboldeutung vermiBt. Nur an zwei Stellen schliigt STERNS Methodenkritik in Gegenstandskritik urn, die das psychoanalytische Konzept des Menschen und seiner Entwicklung tangiert. Die erste (S. 352ff. ) zielt u. a. auf FREUDS Konzipierung des UnbewuBten als "Gegeninstanz des BewuBtseins". STERN greift auBerdem die libidozentrierte monothematische Hermeneutik menschlicher Motive an, an deren Stelle er eine "Vieleinheit der Ziele" gesetzt wissen will. Sie sei eine natiirliche Konsequenz der Position des Menschen in Natur, Kultur, sozialer Welt und ideeller Wertwelt. STERN setzt hier sein personalistisches Menschenbild (eine Version der biirgerlich-philosophischen Anthropologie) gegen das der Psychoanalyse. Die zweite Textstelle (S. 381 ff. ) beriihrt die Entwicklungstheorie. Hier argumentiert STERN u. a. gegen die An- nahme eines unvollkommenen kind lichen BewuBtseins bei gleichzeitig unter- stellter relativer Vollkommenheit des UnbewuBten, so daB die Spannung zwischen BewuBtemund UnbewuBtem zum Ausgangspunkt der Entwicklung gemacht werde, nicht etwa als Entwicklungsprodukt erscheine. Das psychoanalytische Bild der Kindheit sei eine "Riickwiirtsprojektion" der erwachsenen Pers6nlich- keitsstruktur in friihe Phasen der Ontogenese. STERN erinnert hier an eine leider oft vergessene AuBerung FREUDS, wonach die Kindheits- erinnerungen Konstruktionen des Sich-Erinnernden seien, " . . .
