God is still good (Ps. 34:8; 52:1; 86:5; 106:1; 107:1; 135:3; 136:1; 145:9) no matter how bad the situations in life get. God's goodness never fades, amen! As I read once, "Courage is fear that has said its prayers." The remedy is to get connected with God. Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) expressed so richly, "God's people have always, when in the worst of conditions, found out the best of their God. He is good at all times, but He seems to be at His best when they are at their worst." Your house, if it is not dirty now will be dirty later. And when it is, most reach for the sweeper. Yet, you could push that sweeper all day across your floor and not one bit of dirt will be gone, not, that is, until you plug that sucker in. It has to be connected to power before it can work. We, likewise, must be connected to the power in God. Spiritual warrior, Holocaust survivor and Dutch Christian Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) said, "Don't pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees." To do this we must PRAY! Prayer is a way we get connected to God. It is God's messaging system. For that reason, I decided to produce a small but powerful work teaching one the importance of prayer and how one might get started in doing it. I know, small is a relative term. What was at one time very small over the course of study has grown into the present work. Though I still consider it small, at least in the sense that so much more can be said. Prayer, as you will find out is a discipline not just a one-time performance. This modest treaty on the subject of prayer is really a clarion call back to prayer, as well as an introductory endeavor meant more for the layman than for the scholar. I do not intend to expound on every Scriptural text presented. I only mean to point one in the right direction, to encourage one to pray, and to give that one a basic game plan to get started. We need to pray. But before we can do this we must understand what prayer is and how to do it. Just as a doctor gives one a prescription to follow, this is a Biblical prescription to employ in regards to prayer. It may not be as concise as it should be, but at least you'll be able to read the hand writing.
