Die Forderung nach einem kompetenzorientierten Unterricht in den verschiedenen Fächern, wie auch in der Geographie, wird besonders seit der internationalen Vergleichsstudie PISA in Deutschland immer lauter. Das "Programme for International Student Assessment" (PISA) der OECD ist eine internationale Schulleistungsuntersuchung, die Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten Fünfzehnjähriger im Bereich Mathematik, Naturwissenschaften und Lesekompetenz vergleicht. Die Veröffentlichung der Ergebnisse der Studie traf damals auf enormes öffentliches Interesse. Der Grund hierfür war das relativ schlechte Abschneiden der deutschen Schüler und Schülerinnen in allen drei Kompetenzbereichen, sodass ein Paradigmenwechsel stattfinden musste. Die Herausforderung liegt seitdem darin eine Umstellung des Unterrichtsstils zu vollziehen, was schwieriger ist als gedacht. Die Alltagsroutine der Lehrkräfte, die Vermittlung von Faktenwissen soll in den Hintergrund rücken. Der Begriff der "offenen Unterrichtsformen" tritt in den Vordergrund, was den lernenden Menschen ins Zentrum stellt. Es soll nun darum gehen, dass die Schülerinnen und Schüler die Möglichkeit haben, ihr Wissen selbständig aufzubauen und weiterzuentwickeln. Darüber hinaus spielt die Förderung der Problemlösefähigkeit und das Urteilsvermögen der Lernenden in den einzelnen Fächern eine wichtige Rolle. Daraus resultierte sich der Begriff der "Kompetenz" beziehungsweise des "kompetenzorientierten Unterrichts". Der erste Teil meiner Hausarbeit widmet sich genau diesem Aspekt des kompetenzorientierten Unterrichtens.
