Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: In den letzten Jahren erfreut sich ein Themengebiet einer geradezu euphorischen Beliebtheit - DIE KOOPERATION. Inspiriert durch nationale und internationale Forschungen auf diesem Gebiet wurde vor fünf Jahren an der TU Chemnitz mit der Erarbeitung einen Antrages bei der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft auf Einrichtung eines Sonderforschungsbereiches zum Thema „Regionale Produktionsnetze" begonnen. Ab 1. Januar 2000 ist dieser Sonderforschungsbereich mit dem Thema „Hierarchielose regionale Produktionsnetze" an der TU Chemnitz eingerichtet. Die vorliegende Arbeit bildete eine wesentliche Grundlage zur Antragstellung. Gleichzeitig sind aber auch wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse aus dem Finanzierungsantrag der Jahre 2000, 2001 und 2002 zum Sonderforschungsbereich in die Arbeit eingeflossen. Kleine und mittlere Unternehmen (KMU) bilden auf Grund ihrer wirtschaftlichen Bedeutung als Arbeitgeber, Innovator und Ausbilder das Rückgrat der deutschen Wirtschaft. Neue Wirtschafts- und Industriestrukturen passen sich in den hoch entwickelten Industrieländern den Markterfordernissen in Forschung, Entwicklung und Produktion an. Dabei zeichnen sich prinzipielle Veränderungen in den Strukturen der Wertschöpfung bis hin zur Mehrwertschöpfung (Mehr-Wertdienste) ab. Hierbei spielen Kleinst- und Kleinunternehmen eine besondere Rolle als Systemanbieter komplexer Lösungen, wo sie gegenüber Gro unternehmen, bei entsprechenden Organisationskonzepten der Vernetzung, nachweisbare Vorteile besitzen. Diese verfügen neben ihrer hohen Fachkompetenz jedoch über begrenzte Ressourcen und können somit nur begrenzte Teilsequenzen von Wertschöpfungsprozessen erstellen. Um trotzdem die Fähigkeit zur ganzheitlichen kundenorientierten Leistungserstellung innovativer komplexer Produkte zu behalten bzw. zu erwerben, müssen entweder fehlende Kompetenzen angelagert oder durch Kooperation vervollständigt werden.
