Blickt man auf die künstlerischen Ideen im Umfeld dieser Ausdifferenzierungsprozesse, ist die "Postmoderne" ein Schlüsselbegriff: Literatur wagt sich hier grenzüberschreitend an naturwissenschaftliche Themen heran, das Heterogene soll verbunden werden. Eine adäquate Darstellungsform, die Heterogenes vereint, die Pluralismus und Polyphonie darstellt, bietet in dieser Hinsicht das multiperspektivische Erzählen, welches in der Literatur seit jeher eingesetzt wird und mittlerweile auch im Film zunehmende Verwendung findet. Da die übliche Forschungsliteratur zu der relativ jungen Darstellungsform des multiperspektivisch erzählten Films mit ihren mannigfaltigen und sich zum Teil widersprechenden Begriffen mehr Verwirrung produziert als beseitigt, steht im Zentrum dieser Arbeit die Analyse zweier Spielfilme (RASHOMON aus dem Jahr 1950 und SYRIANA aus dem Jahr 2005), die beide, auf sehr unterschiedliche Weise, multiperspektivisch erzählen. Die Verfasserin will anhand dieser beiden Filme die Bandbreite wie die Funktionalisierungen dieses Erzähltypus erkunden, sowie am Rande auf die historischen Hintergründe und Entwicklungen desselben eingehen. Am Ende steht die Einsicht, dass RASHOMON und SYRIANA sich nicht nur sehr unterschiedlicher Formen multiperspektivischen Erzählens bedienen, welche auf gewisse Weise zwei Extrempunkte auf einer Linie bilden.
