Es soll wissenschaftlich beleuchtet werden, wie Organisationen Konflikten vorbeugen können bzw. wie Konflikte in Organisationen erfolgreich und ohne immense Folgekosten bewältigt werden können. Dazu soll eine Empfehlung für ein Konfliktmanagementsystem in Organisationen erarbeitet werden. Wenn Menschen aufeinandertreffen und miteinander kommunizieren, herrscht Konfliktpotenzial. Unklare Botschaften, nebenbei fallende Bemerkungen, Spannungen oder unausgesprochene Vorwürfe können hier Ursachen sein. Konflikte sind dabei oft von Gefühlen gesteuert, was ebenso erklärt, warum Konflikte auch einen eskalierenden Charakter haben. Menschliche Gefühle lassen sich nur schwer steuern. Konflikte entstehen, wenn gegensätzliche Interessen oder Überzeugungen aufeinandertreffen und sich mindestens eine der Parteien dadurch provoziert, blockiert oder gestört fühlt. In Organisationen treten Konflikte täglich auf, da hier unterschiedliche Persönlichkeiten, Überzeugungen oder Kompetenzen, mit der Notwendigkeit zu kooperieren aufeinandertreffen. Gleichzeitig verschärft ein Wettbewerb um Macht, Positionen und Anerkennung die Situation und lässt Spannungen zu Konflikten eskalieren. Folge sind psychische Belastungen bei Individuen und nicht zu vernachlässigende Kosten bei Arbeitgebern.
