Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Auf dem europäischen Softwaremarkt offerieren au erordentlich viele Systemhäuser ihre Produktlösungen für den FM-Bereich. In Deutschland rangeln sich rund 50 verschiedene Systeme um die Spitzenpositionen jährlicher Marktstatistiken. Nur wenige Anbieter setzen auf eine ansatzweise Lösung als Webapplikation und das enorme Potential des Mediums Internet. In diesem Zusammenhang scheint hier auch das Thema Open Source im Bereich der CAFM-Softwareentwicklung bisher ein generelles Fremdwort zu sein. Die weit verstreuten Entwicklungsteams heutiger CAFM-Softwareanbieter sind nicht in der Lage, Synergieeffekte zu bilden und auf gemeinsamen Erfahrungen aufzubauen. Dem gegenüber steht eine lange Liste von Erfolgsprojekten der mittlerweile etablierten Open Source Gemeinschaft, wie beispielsweise: GNU, FreeBSD und Linux, DNS, Bind und Sendmail, Apache, Tomcat und Samba, PHP, Perl, Python, Tcl/Tk und Typo3. Die durchaus positiven Erfahrungen und nutzbringenden Resultate dieser globalen Entwicklungsgemeinschaft konnten den CAFM-Markt bisher nicht dazu animieren, einen Schritt in diese Richtung zu gehen. Unter Kenntnis dieser Situation und der Begeisterung für Open Source Projekte entstand im Rahmen zweier Diplomarbeiten an der FHTW Berlin die Idee, eine Low Budget-Lösung für jedermann zu entwickeln. Das Vorhaben setzt hierbei voll und ganz auf den Open Source Gedanken und der Nutzung freier Ressourcen. Gang der Untersuchung: Kernziel des Projekts ist es, mit Hilfe der aktuellen und gängigen Web- und Internettechnologien, eine vollwertige, erweiterbare Anwendung für gängige Aufgabenbereiche des Facility Management zu realisieren. Die wesentlichen Vorteile und Möglichkeiten einer Browser basierten Lösung lassen sich recht kurz zusammenfassen: Senkung von Transaktionskosten, erleichterte Produktdifferenzierung, beschleunigte Wissensdiffusion, Zugriffsrecht gesteuerte Informationsbeschaffung, personalisierte, prozessgesteuerte Bedienoberfläche (mehrs
