Betrachtet man die derzeitige Studienlage, so stellt man fest, dass sich ein Krafttraining mit Gewichten positiv auf die Leistungsfähigkeit in Ausdauersportarten wie Schwimmen, Radfahren oder Laufen auswirkt. So untersuchte Aspens und andere die Wirkung eines kombinierten Ausdauertrainings mit hoher aerober Intensität mit einem Training der Maximalkraft bei Schwimmern. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass Krafttraining für die Ausdauerleistung im Schwimmsport wichtig zu sein scheint, da eine "signifikante Verbesserung der Schwimmkraft" gegeben war, die sich in einer schnelleren 400m Freistil - Leistungszeit niederschlug. Auch Wirth et al. verweisen darauf, dass eine Erhöhung der Maximalkraft mit einer Erhöhung der möglichen Schwimmgeschwindigkeit einhergeht, was sich einerseits in einem "höheren Kraftmaximum pro Einzelzyklus" und andererseits in einer "höheren Bewegungsfrequenz ohne Verkürzung des Zykluswegs" zeigt. Im Gegensatz zu Aspens weisen Wirth et al. sogar auf eine verbesserte Schwimmökonomie durch ein höheres Maximalkraftpotential hin. Auch beim Radfahren wurde aufgezeigt, dass sich ein Maximalkrafttraining lohnt. So legten R nnestad et al. die Wirkung eines 2-mal pro Woche stattfindenden Krafttrainings auf die Leistungsfähigkeit beim Zeitfahren dar, welches zusätzlich zum Ausdauertraining durchgeführt wurde. Auf Grund dessen, dass dies alles Teildisziplinen der Sportart Triathlon sind, macht sich Maximalrafttraining in dieser Sportart ebenfalls bemerkbar.
