MoroToba, the young Dragon Prince of the Krakatau Fire-Dragons watches over the hole in the ocean floor, where his mountain kingdom once was when Krakatau towered over the sea. Now a fine young dragon, MoroToba is skilled in dragon craft, very proud and rather arrogant. When no fire-dragons return after the huge eruption, MoroToba decides to search for them. But to choose a direction, the young dragon needs help. This he obtains from the Great White Owl - for a price!

His travels take him to many countries, each seeming to have its own kind of dragon stories, and he discovers many new friends - and enemies! But his enemies have their vicious plans. When the dragons must battle with these deadly enemies; they need all the tricks they know! From the islands near his precious Krakatau, along many coastal journeys, and across vast stretches of unknown lands.

MoroToba discovers that all dragons are not like him. They have their own stories, their heroes, and in their dragon-song, he learns the great legends of dragon history!! Nevertheless, he gathers his followers to lead them home to Krakatau, and the flight of the dragons, as they move from country to country, is spiced with strange meetings, stranger battles, and strangest of all, the discovery that some humans are not afraid of dragons! They instead like them! When MoroToba arrives in the cities of humans who love dragons, he learns to enjoy the company of others, which is a big lesson for a lonely dragon! And when he meets the Dragons of the Typhoon Seas, he learns that sometimes, displays of power are not about strength but pride and knowing who - or what - you are!
