Methodisch wird dabei auf eine Vielzahl bereits bestehender Studien und Analysen zurückgegriffen. Dabei besteht der Anspruch dieser Arbeit darin, durch sachlich fundierte Fakten Pro- und Contra Argumente zu entwickeln, um so zu einer differenzierten Analyse der Thematik zu gelangen. Zur Bearbeitung dieser Fragestellung wird in dieser Arbeit zunächst das Währungssystem einer Marktwirtschaft betrachtet, um Erkenntnisse über die Funktionsweise des Systems gewinnen zu können, auf dessen Grundlage die weitere Analyse erfolgt. In der ersten beiden Kapiteln wird die Bedeutung des Geldes in einer Marktwirtschaft geklärt und die Bedeutung des Geldes im Kontext des Wirtschaftskreislaufs aufgezeigt. Im dritten Kapitel steht das System der Kryptowährungen im Mittelpunkt. Zunächst wird der Begriff "Kryptowährung" erläutert. Um die Hintergründe und Motive verstehen zu können, aus denen heraus Kryptowährungen entwickelt wurden, schlie t sich ein kurzer Überblick über ihre Entstehungsgeschichte an. Mit der Blockchain wird anschlie end die technische Grundlage sämtlicher Kryptowährungen vorgestellt. Anschlie end soll mit dem Bitcoin die älteste und populärste der Kryptowährungen in den Fokus gerückt werden. Um einen Überblick über den Krypto-Markt zu erhalten, werden mit Ethereum, Stellar, EOS und IOTA weitere Krypto-Systeme betrachtet. Aufbauend auf den gewonnenen Erkenntnissen wird im vierten Kapitel dieser Arbeit die ökonomische Eignung von Kryptowährungen anhand der drei Grundfunktionen des Geldes analysiert. Als Teil der ökonomischen Analyse von Kryptowährungen wird im fünften Kapitel ein länderspezifischer Vergleich des Krypto-Marktes angestellt. Hie
