Die Hermeneutik wurzelt in den Anfangen abendl�ndischer Geistesgeschichte. Die Botschaften der G�tter mu ten ausgelegt und in eine fur den Menschen verst�ndliche Sprache �bersetzt werden. Unverst�ndliche bzw. schwer ver- st�ndliche Botschaften oder Texte sollten mit Hilfe der Hermeneutik erschlos- sen werden, die zu diesem Zweck eigene Methoden und Techniken des Ver- stehens entwickelt hat. Schleiermacher entwickelte als erster aus der Analyse des Verstehens systematisch eine allgemeine Hermeneutik: Entsprechend dem Ineinander eines allgemeinen (Sprache) und eines individuellen Faktors (Denken) sind in jeder Rede im Verstehen die beiden Momente grammatischer und psychologischer Interpretation zu unterscheiden. Das Verstehen ist nach Schleiermacher (1977) die Umkehrung des Aktes geistiger Produktion, hat divinatorischen Charakter und zielt auf die Beziehung von Autor und Werk. Es gilt, "die Rede ebenso gut und dann besser zu verstehen als ihr Urheber". Schleiermachers Hermeneutik bedeutet wegen ihrer Begr�ndung des Verstehens auf das Gespr�ch und die zwischenmenschliche Verst�ndigung schlechthin eine "Tief erlegung der Fundamente" (Gadamer 1974), die zugleich die Errichtung eines auf hermeneutischer Basis begr�ndeten Wissenschaftssystems gestattete. Die Hermeneutik wurde zur Grundlage fur alle historischen Wissenschaften. In der Nachfolge Schleiermachers verdient insbesondere Dilthey (1959) Erw�hnung, dessen �berlegungen die Scheidung von Natur- und Geistes-(Kul- tur)wissenschaften definierten und zur wissenschaftstheoretischen Begr�ndung der Geisteswissenschaften fuhrten. Die Frage nach den Methoden von Natur- und Geistes(Kultur)wissenschaften beantwortet Dilthey mit der zentralen Unterscheidung von Erkl�ren und Verstehen: NaturwissenschaftlicheSachverhalte werden erkl�rt - geisteswissenschaftliche Sachverhalte k�nnen verstanden werden (vgl. Dilthey 1959, Bd. 5).
