Kumarsambhav, literally stands for the birth of the war-god Kartikeya, Shiva's first son. Kumarsambhav (Sanskrit Classics) is a Sanskrit epic poem and one of the finest work of Kalidas. This is a legendary Sanskrit poem and one of the most leading and significant examples of Kavya poetry. This book essentially talks about the courtship of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Most of chapters have enormous details about the love and romance between Shiva and Parvati. Kumarsambhav states about the powerful demon named Tarakasur, who was blessed with a boon that only the child of Lord Shiva could conquer him. Parvati take great efforts to win the love of Lord Shiva as Shiva was in passionate meditation and had cut short the desire for love. Later Shiva and Parvati were blessed with a son Kartikeya, who grew up and slew the Tarakasur. The style of depiction in Kumarsambhav had set the standard for nature images passing through many centuries of Indian literary tradition. Kalidas incorporates a noble culture in Kumarsambhav by crowning all pen pictures of things that are sweet and beautiful. The poems in Kumarsambhav (Sanskrit Classics) provide us a vibrant picture of good and meaningful life a person could and should lead as proposed by our learned ancestor. Rajpal published this book in 2013 in paperback. Key Features: This is the legendary Sanskrit poem by a well-known classical Sanskrit writer and greatest poet and dramatist in the Sanskrit language. Kumarsamhav contains 18 sargas. Kalidas wrote only the first eight chapters as per the critics. Kumarsambhav has some of the most poetic and vibrant expressions in the Sanskrit language.

Kalidas was a classical writer and very little is known about his personal life. According to legends, Kalidas was famous for his beauty and that's why he got attention from Princess Vidyottama and she married him. Kalidas was not much educated and was a devoted worshipper of Kali. He called upon his goddess for help when he was going to commit suicide when he was humiliated by his wife. He got sudden and extraordinary gift of wit and became the most brilliant of the nine gems at the court of Vikramaditya of Ujjain. Kalidas wrote three plays and was the author of two epic poems.
