La preocupaci�n de los liberales por el excesivo poder y el control de tierras y riquezas de la Iglesia cat�lica condujo a la Constituci�n de 1857, la Guerra de Reforma y, finalmente, a la intervenci�n francesa con la llegada al poder del emperador Maximiliano.

Se explica todo esto, adem�s de la presidencia de Benito Ju�rez, la dictadura de Porfirio D�az, la Revoluci�n Mexicana, la Constituci�n de 1917 y la Guerra Cristera. El libro tambi�n contiene biograf�as de cada personaje de la obra y de otras figuras hist�ricas relevantesde la �poca, adem�s de m�s de 175 fotograf�as restauradas de la �poca.
