Thomas, Hugh: -

Hugh Thomas nació en Windsor en 1931, estudió en la Universidad de Cambridge y en la Sorbona, y fue profesor de la Academia Real Militar de Sandhurst y de la Universidad de Reading. En 1961 se dio a conocer internacionalmente con su libro La guerra civil española, que tuvo una gran resonancia y se tradujo a numerosos idiomas; le siguieron Cuba: la lucha por la libertad (3 volúmenes), Goya y el 3 de mayo de 1808, Paz armada, Una historia inacabada del mundo y La conquista de México, publicado, con gran éxito de crítica y público, por Editorial Planeta. En 1981 fue nombrado par (lord Thomas de Swynnerton). Murió en Londres en 2017.


Hugh Thomas was born in Windsor in 1931, studied at the University of Cambridge and the Sorbonne, and was a professor at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the University of Reading. In 1961, he gained international recognition with his book The Spanish Civil War, which had a great impact and was translated into numerous languages; it was followed by Cuba: The Pursuit of Freedom (3 volumes), Goya and the Third of May 1808, The Armed Truce,
World Without End, and The Conquest of Mexico: Cortes, Montezuma, and the Fall of Old Mexico
, published to great critical and public acclaim by Editorial Planeta. In 1981, he was made a peer (Lord Thomas of Swynnerton). He died in London in 2017.
