La Florida del Inca es una obra del Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Relata las aventuras de los expedicionarios españoles en sus viajes por la península de la Florida en Norteamérica. Iban encabezados primero por el capitán Hernando de Soto, y luego, por Luis de Moscoso, entre 1539 y 1543. El libro se complementa con la descripción del ambiente geográfico y de las costumbres de los indígenas.

La Florida del Inca se imprime en 1605, y se sabe de su existencia gracias a la dedicatoria que el autor le hizo a Felipe II, en su traducción de los Diálogos de Amor, con fecha de 1586.

Para la redacción de esta obra, el Inca Garcilaso usó diversas fuentes impresas:


las crónicas de Francisco López de Gómara,

la Historia natural y moral de las Indias, de José de Acosta, en el ámbito historiográfico de las Indias;

Naufragios de Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca,

el poema Elegías de varones ilustres de Juan de Castellanos

y La Araucana, de Alonso de Ercilla.

La Florida del Inca es una historia clásica con destellos novelescos, donde se relatan descubrimientos, naufragios, pérdidas y reencuentros en paisajes naturales. Se trata de una historia de aventuras, al estilo de las novelas de caballería, no faltan las luchas, ni el galanteo entre valientes soldados y hermosas damas.

Su prosa es el resultado de largas horas de lectura y la necesidad de mostrar un mundo que expira y otro que se instala. La Florida... lo prepara para encarar su máxima proeza: los Comentarios reales (también publicado en Linkgua ediciones).

La Florida... es la primera crónica de Indias escrita por un autor mestizo y nacido en el Nuevo Mundo. El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega (1539-1616), era oriundo del Cuzco, hijo del capitán español Sebastián Garcilaso de la Vega y la princesa incaica Isabel Chimpu Ocllo.

El Inca Garcilaso supo combinar sus dos herencias culturales: la indígena americana y la europea. Su obra es el testimonio histórico del Virreinato de Perú y él está considerado como el padre de las letras del continente americano.

Inca Garcilaso (1539-1616). Peru. Escritor e historiador peruano. Hijo del conquistador espanol Sebastian Garcilaso de la Vega y de la princesa inca Isabel Chimpo Ocllo. Combatio junto a las tropas de Francisco Pizarro hasta que se paso al bando del virrey La Gasca. Tuvo una excelente formacion y se fue a Espana a los veintiun anos. Era capitan del ejercito espanol cuando participo en la represion de los moriscos de Granada, y mas tarde estuvo en servicio en Italia, donde conocio al filosofo neoplatonico Leon Hebreo. En 1590, dejo las armas y entro en religion. Frecuento los circulos humanisticos de Sevilla, Montilla y Cordoba y estudio historia y leyo a los poetas clasicos y renacentistas.
