About The Book

"La fontana de las xanas" (1954), en la que se hilvanan canciones populares y romances, con referencias mitológicas, sigue la premática teatral por la que aboga Joaquín Alonso Bonet. Construida a partir de varias escenas corales, de las que va entresacando a sus protagonistas, comienza cuando unas lavanderas chismosas, reprochan a Covadonga su juego amoroso con Arcadio y Josepín, que es auxiliado por la meiga Quica, que ya ha seducido con sus artes al gauchesco Lin, y hasta por las mismísimas xanas, mientras espera al indiano Panchito, que aparece, después de calcar una escena de su "La alborada de San Juan" (1950), en la que las mozas vienen a recoger de madrugada aquel agua con virtudes amorosas, durante una romería campestre, en la que se baila el "Enguedeyéme". Panchito aparece en su gran carro de 8 cilindros, 8 plazas, 8 ruedas y 100 CV, con intención de llevarse a Covadonga, y, con ella, la ilusión de Josepín, que le entrega la flor del agua, el mejor de los elixires de amor. Transcurridos unos días, desengañada por la suerte de su hermano, también indiano, y cedida de buen grado por el presuntuoso Panchito, para el que aquel mundo de xanas resulta pueril, tras conocer aquel otro en el que todo se mide por el dinero, Covadonga unirá su destino al de Josepín. En la tabernaria y ripiosa comedia "Rosina", asistimos a uno de los mejores cortejos un rufián, lo que integra a su autor entre los representantes de la escuela de monologuistas mierenses. Después del asesinato no esclarecido de aquel rufián, sólo podemos tomarnos a broma aquel lamento de un recluso sobre los hijos de una tierra, siempre en disputas y guerras, en la que se olvidan el sentido del deber y del honor al amigo y camarada, y en la que el impacto la minería, ilusión pasajera que desgasta energías, esfuerzos y trabajo, impide valorar una arcádica Asturias, donde la verdad que gobierna dolencias, penas y amores es eterna.
