Si la muerte constituye uno de los misterios no resueltos por el hombre, la muerte que un hombre provoca a otro, tiene sobre todos nosotros una atracción que solo es capaz de producir la fascinación por el vértigo de ser conscientes de que el Mal existe y anida en el alma humana. Toda construcción moral, todo avance en nuestra Cultura y Civilización, queda en cuestión ante el criminal que es capaz de arrebatar la vida de un semejante. Y, puestos a privar de la vida a otro, existen muchas maneras de hacerlo, siendo las que más nos sorprenden, aquellas en las que se utiliza fuerza extrema, ensañamiento, engaño o abuso de la víctima, y el grado de crueldad en la ejecución de crimen es también relevante en este sentido. Otro aspecto que nos llama la atención en este orden de cosas, es la personalidad del asesino. No es lo mismo el que mata una vez, que el que mata muchas; y el que mata por interés, codicia o venganza, no es igual al que que lo hace por placer. Y, por último, entre los que matan más de una vez, tampoco es lo mismo el que mata muchas veces de forma espontánea, sin regularidad en su acción, que el que mata siguiendo una pauta regular haciendo de la muerte un hábito, incluso una forma de vida. Como tampoco es lo mismo, el que desarrolla ciclos de muerte, el asesino en serie, que el asesino compulsivo que mata descontroladamente a una pluralidad de personas.

En todos los casos, cuando conocemos los hechos y analizamos las circunstancias en las que se han producido, nos queda siempre la idea de creer que comprendemos lo ocurrido. Aunque, al final, siempre se impone el hecho de que sólo tenemos el sabor amargo de no acabar nunca de entender por qué alguien, es capaz de matar a un semejante. Lo único cierto es que los psicópatas criminales, son mentirosos y manipuladores que se apoyan en los más débiles, haciéndoles creer que es la sociedad la que está en contra de ellos y, aunque entre los psicópatas los criminales son una exigua minoría, la mayoría de los afectados por el trastorno antisocial de la personalidad, actúan exactamente igual, aunque nunca lleguen a delinquir. Aparentan ser buenas personas, pero no sienten emociones y tienen una personalidad carente de conciencia, y no existe un tratamiento para paliar su trastorno antisocial de la personalidad. Y es que no debemos olvidar, que el monstruo duerme en el interior de cada uno de nosotros o espera agazapado en nuestro entorno más cercano. No lo despierten.
