Jesús presenta tres metáforas sobre la oración: pedir, buscar y llamar. La primera palabra ("pedir", griego: aiteite) significa orar con un sentimiento de dependencia. Lo utiliza la persona que llega con las manos vacías y dice: "No tengo nada que comprar". Jesús nunca oró así, es decir, como alguien muy pobre. Pero así debemos pedir al Padre, como indigentes y necesitados de todo. Es la mejor expresión del dicho popular que dice: "Fe en Dios y manos a la obra. Estas son las tres reglas básicas de una oración correcta y eficaz: perseverancia.
