La historia de México era una galería de estatuas broncíneas. En esa relación, como en las películas de vaqueros, los héroes eran impolutos, incapaces de toda maldad, y los villanos eran seres perversos, malvados sin posible redención, en los que ningún atisbo de bien podía hallarse. Nació en Saltillo, Coahuila. Hizo sus primeros estudios en la Escuela Normal del Estado y en el Ateneo Fuente, prestigiosa institución de la que posteriormente sería director. Luego cursó la carrera de abogado en la Escuela de Leyes de su ciudad natal, y en la UNAM. Tiene maestrías en Lengua y Literatura Españolas y en Ciencias de la Educación, y recibió el grado de Doctor Honoris Causa por la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. En 1978 se le nombró Cronista de Saltillo. Creó Radio Concierto, una emisora cultural de la que sus paisanos se sienten orgullosos. Es igualmente fundador de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicación de la Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila. Junto con su esposa María de la Luz sostiene desde hace más de 30 años un comedor para niños campesinos. Autor de numerosos libros, todos ellos éxitos editoriales, escribe diariamente para más de un centenar de publiacaciones sus artículos periodísticos "De política y cosas peores" y "Mirador". Se le considera el columnista más leído de México.
