La dépression et les sentiments de désespoir peuvent également amener quelqu'un à commettre des actes répréhensibles pour échapper à la souffrance émotionnelle ou pour attirer l'attention.

Les croyances jouent également un rôle important dans le comportement des délinquants. Les croyances négatives sur soi-même, sur les autres ou sur la société peuvent renforcer les schémas de pensée délinquants. Par exemple, un individu qui croit fermement qu'il est condamné à l'échec ou qu'il n'a pas d'autres options que la criminalité peut être plus enclin à commettre des actes délictueux. De même, les croyances antisociales, telles que l'idée que les autres sont faibles ou méprisables, peuvent justifier des comportements prédateurs ou violents.

Il convient de souligner que tous les délinquants ne partagent pas les mêmes sentiments négatifs ou les mêmes croyances. Chaque individu a son propre parcours et ses propres facteurs contributifs. Cependant, les sentiments négatifs et les croyances peuvent jouer un rôle significatif dans la compréhension du comportement délinquant et sont souvent pris en compte lors de l'élaboration de programmes de réhabilitation visant à changer les schémas de pensée et à favoriser une réintégration sociale positive.
