Cet ouvrage propose un parcours socio-historique autour de la confrontation de la religion avec l'esth�tique en focalisant sur l'art particuli�rement en phase avec le fait religieux. H�ritage chr�tien en disgr�ce, la religion dans notre culture, marginalis�e par les mutations socio-�conomiques et cognitives, n'a plus l'emprise universaliste sur la vie collective. Au regard de cette configuration, l'esth�tique est un important espace d'interpellation. Son exploration s'est concentr�e principalement sur le fait musical en lien avec la liturgie analys�e du plain chant jusqu'� la r�ouverture de Notre-Dame de Paris, et en interface avec la pens�e th�ologique sous diff�rents aspects. L'art pictural et l'architecture des lieux de culte sont aussi analys�s � travers la querelle de l'art sacr� marqu�e par de s�v�res antagonismes dans la deuxi�me partie du XXe si�cle. Au cours de ces investigations, la religion se voit alors mise � l'�preuve avec l'esth�tisation des manifestations du religieux � travers le langage g�n�ralis� de la symbolisation au regard du discursif. Plus particuli�rement, l'art, en ayant acquis son autonomie, renvoie � la sensorialit�, � l'inconscient, � une forme de sacr� et donne acc�s � une transcendance diff�renci�e du surnaturel. Ces analyses soul�vent des questions essentielles sur la destin�e de l'histoire humaine.

Ses principaux axes de recherche sont la pratique des sondages, le système de croyances, l'esthétique et la religion. Par ailleurs, il est titulaire d'un prix d'histoire de la musique au Conservatoire supérieur de Paris.
