Les politiques migratoires et urbaines en Suède ont été à l'origine de la ségrégation par des programmes d'intégration contre-productifs. L'immigration suédoise a connu un changement politique passant d'une politique généreuse pour les travailleurs immigrés à une politique plus restrictive et sélective en faveur des réfugiés et demandeurs d'asile. Le processus actuel de ségrégation (ethnique et résidentielle) se développe dans les quartiers dits sensibles, notamment dans les banlieues des trois principales agglomérations urbaines suédoises. Le développement du phénomène à Stockholm tient entre autres à son histoire urbaine, au rôle de la morphologie urbaine et de l'espace public impliquant une hausse d'un certain malaise et des violences urbaines. Après avoir mesuré le degré d'intégration culturelle, économique et politique des immigrés, les liens entre ségrégation et modèle d'intégration suédois sont éclaircis de façon à remettre en question ce modèle pour l'Union Européenne. L'ouvrage se base sur plusieurs entretiens, mais également des articles universitaires et scientifiques, de presse, des données statistiques nationales (Statistics Sweden) et des visites de terrain.
