[...] ENGLISH DESCRIPTION After Black Hole and Last Look, Charles Burns cements his international reputation with a new autobiographical masterpiece. - BOOK OF THE YEAR* The New Yorker, The Washington Post, Publishers Weekly - EISNER AWARD* Best Complete Author (writer/artist) "Burns' virtuosity is on full display here... One might say Charles Burns was born to create Labyrinths." --The Washington Post As a child, Brian Milner made science fiction films at home with the help of his friends, who played victims of terrifying murders using lipstick to simulate blood. Now an aspiring filmmaker, Brian plans a trip to a remote cabin in the woods with his friends Jimmy, Tina, and Laurie (his reluctant muse). He hopes to shoot a true horror and sci-fi movie on an old 8mm camera, paying homage to his favorite film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Though it becomes clear that Laurie does not return his feelings, Brian presses on, lost in a fantasy where she is the girl of his dreams, his damsel in distress, and his savior all at once. Labyrinths is a work filled with references to classic cinema, where the panels overflow with striking depictions of nature, cinematic language, and surreal landscapes, blurring the line between Brian's dreams and reality. This edition collects all three volumes in a single book--a masterful exploration of what it means to express oneself through art, recognized worldwide as Charles Burns' most personal work.
