Labour law mediates the relationship between workers, employers, trade unions and the government. Collective labour law bounds up with tripartite relationship between employee, employer and union, while individual labour law concerns employees' rights at work, and contract for work. Employment standards are social norms for the minimum socially acceptable conditions under which employees or contractors are allowed to work. Modern industrial relations are a blend of traditional systems and innovations. Some features of the earlier system persist and, therefore, they lead to conflict with new practices, creating challenging problems for the management as many of the changes may be opposed by workers. In India, industrial democracy plays a vital role in the solution of welfare issues but its role is minimal in decision-making at the policy level. The limited participation of workers at the decision-making level has created differences between employers and employees in the modern world. So, in the interest of workers, employers and society, minimization of conflicts in various sectors is very important. The book is an attempt to focus the attention of the readers to the current and controversial problems relating to the settlement of industrial disputes and allied problems in a concise, systematic and objective manner. It contains ten important statutes dealing with labour management relations and social security legislations in India. The statutes included for detailed treatment of the subject matter are prescribed for study in various universities. The book will serve as a textbook for students studying in L.L.B., L.L.M., M.L.M., M.L.S., M.S.W., M.B.A., I.C.W.A., A.C.S., and those pursuing diplomas/degrees in labour welfare, industrial and labour legislation, and personnel management. Besides, it will prove useful for practising lawyers in the field of labour and industrial law.
