"Labour in Madras" by B. P. Wadia is a pioneering work documenting the early labor movement in colonial India, particularly in Madras (now Chennai). Drawing from his firsthand experience as a labor leader, Wadia analyzes the conditions of industrial workers, the exploitation they faced, and the need for organized unions. The book highlights the founding of the Madras Labour Union and advocates for workers’ rights, fair wages, and social justice. It remains a foundational text in India’s labor and trade union history.

B. P. Wadia (1881–1958) was an influential Indian theosophist, writer, and pioneering labour activist. Initially active with the Theosophical Society in Adyar, he later joined the United Lodge of Theosophists (ULT), founding lodges across the U.S., Europe, and India. A strong advocate for workers' rights, he co-founded the Madras Labour Union in 1918. Wadia also launched the journal The Aryan Path and established the Indian Institute of World Culture in Bangalore. His work bridged spirituality, education, and social reform.
