About The Book

Ladakh is one of the remote region of Jammu & Kashmir State in India. Its people were neglected in the past due to the inaccessible terrain and inhospitable climatic conditions. However, Buddhist Yogis (Tib. RnalbyorpasrGodtsangpa, stagtsangraspa etc. Indian Acharyas Padmasambhava and Naropa and Rinpoches of Geluk, Saskya, Nyingma and Ka'gyud tradition have made their valuable contribution for the preservation of Buddhist culture and tradition. The Naropa came in Zanskar, Phokar dzong near Shargol and rgodtsang above Hemis monastery in the high mountain ranges are such hermits where these great siddhas meditated years together. Author who came in Ladakh 1981, visited many such places. The present document is based upon the work, and a study over a long period of stay in Ladakh. This book thus, a multidisciplinary approach to study Ladakhi culture and tradition, and would be useful for tourists, research scholars and those who are interested in Ladakhi Buddhist Culture.

About The Author

Dr. Prem Singh Jina is a renowned scholar and writer and the senior faculty member of Economics Department of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, LehLadakh. Dr. Prem Singh Jina has made very significant contribution to Ladakh Studies. His publication include some twentyone books and over one hundred papers. Some of these, specially those on pasture ecology, ecotourism, culturetourism, and Monastic studies have earned international recognition. He has presented 21 papers in the International Conferences and 71 papers in the National Conferences. His famous books are High Pastureland of Ladakh (1995), Tourism in Ladakh Himalaya (1994), Ladakh: The Land and the People (1996), Lamauru Monastery of Ladakh Himalaya (1999), Ladakh: Past and Present (2000), Ladakh Profile (2005) and Ladakh Himalaya: Past and preset (2006). Currently Dr. Prem Singh Jina is attached with Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, LehLadakh and is actively doing his research work on Ladakh.
