Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Kunst - Fotografie und Film, Note: 1,3, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Veranstaltung: Jeff Wall und die "Vancouver School of Photography", Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Jeff Wall ist einer der bedeutendsten Fotokünstler der Gegenwart. Scheinbar belanglose, alltägliche Motive, die der Künstler in der Stadtlandschaft seiner Heimat Vancouver beobachtet hat, werden für Wall seit den 60er Jahren zum Objekt seiner Kunst, zum Ausgangspunkt für seine inszenierte Fotografie. Einem Regisseur gleich rekonstruiert und dramatisiert er die jeweilige Szene, oft unter Rückgriff auf Schauspieler und Studiokulissen. Die einmaligen Kompositionen sind zuallererst Reflexion gesellschaftlicher Realität; genauer betrachtet sind sie Ausdruck der Unfreiheit des Menschen, dessen Leben vom "alles durchdringenden Kapitalismus" gesteuert wird. Die sich daraus ergebenden Themen sind Entfremdung und Einsamkeit, soziale Probleme, die Unwirtlichkeit der Städte und Migration. Die fertigen Fotografien werden als gro formatige Diapositive in Leuchtkästen präsentiert, einer aus der Werbung entlehnten Vermittlungsform. Als promovierter Kunsthistoriker verarbeitet Wall in seinen Werken immer wieder kunstgeschichtliche Bezüge. Vor allem die europäische Tafelmalerei des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts dient Wall dabei als Bezugspunkt auf seinem "Weg hin zur Tradition, ohne dabei den Weg der Moderne zu verlassen". Walls bildliche Arbeit wird durch seine Textproduktion ergänzt: durch seine Essays zu Werken anderer Künstler, aber auch durch Äu erungen Walls zu seinen eigenen Bildern. In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll das Bild "Coastal Motifs" von Jeff Wall einer (ästhetischen) Kritik unterzogen werden. Dabei möchte ich herausarbeiten, warum gerade dieses Werk des kanadischen Künstlers in meinen Augen zu einer der gelungensten Fotografien im Oeuvre Walls gehört. Vorbilder bzw. Vergleichsarbeiten anderer Künstler aus Kunstgeschichte und zeitgenössischem Kontext sol

Corinna Gronau, M.A., wurde 1988 in Berlin geboren. Ihr Studium der Kunstgeschichte und Germanistischen Literaturwissenschaft an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universitat Jena schloss die Autorin mit dem akademischen Grad Bachlor of Arts erfolgreich ab. Ihr Masterstudium der Kommunikation und Sprache mit dem Schwerpunkt Medienwissenschaft absolvierte sie an der TU Berlin. Praktische Erfahrung in den Bereichen Redaktion, Marketing und Lektorat konnte Corinna Gronau in mehreren Praktika und einem Verlagsvolontariat sammeln. Derzeit arbeitet sie als PR-Beraterin in einer Agentur in Ingolstadt.
