The book contains six interesting and useful essays on Indian English literature. As it contains several essays on Urdu Literature and studies where English and Urdu have been compared and contrasted the teachers and students of Urdu may also benefit from it. The book also contains a chapter on the influence of English on Kurmali. The book may help to promote further fruitful discussion on issues connected with India, Indian English literature, Indian languages and contractive analysis.
QAISER ZOHA ALAM took his M.A. in English from Ranchi University in 1963. He received his Ph.D. in 1968. Later he also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in the Teaching of English from the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad. He is presently working as a University Professor in the Postgraduate Department of English, Ranchi University. He has taught at the degree level for three decades and at the Postgraduate level for 19 years. He has made Linguistics, Language Teaching, Regional Languages, Education and Indian Literature his special fields of study and research. Alam was nominated a member of the International Advisory Committee of the World Linguistic Humour Conference held in the United States in 1987 and was also invited to chair a session. He is a keen and enthusiastic researcher. He has published Issues : Linguistic and Pedagogic (New Delhi, 1983), The Dynamics of Imagery (New Delhi, 1994) and English Language Teaching in India (New Delhi, 1995). Alam's papers have appeared in leading Indian and international journals e.g., META, Canada, WHIMSY, U.S.A., The Journal of Indian Education, NIE Journal, International Journal of Translation, Indian Journal of Applied Linguistics, Language Forum, Creative Forum, Education Quarterly, Indian Literature, ELT Journal, Indian Linguistics, Eastern Anthropologist, Triveni, Research Bulletin and Banasthali Patrika etc. His papers have been included in various anthologies.
He writes in Hindi and Urdu also. He received a prestigious award for his Urdu work Sharar-e-Justajoo.
