Son but est de permettre aux praticiens d'améliorer leurs pratiques, après les avoir confrontées aux recommandations. La mise en oeuvre de l'EPP en médecine générale en est encore à l'état de projet. L'audit clinique ciblé est une méthode d'EPP couramment utilisée dans les établissements de santé. L'association de Formation Médicale Continue du Haut-Rhin (FMC 68) a choisi de la mettre en oeuvre en médecine générale, sur le thème de la prescription médicamenteuse chez le sujet âgé. Le potentiel d'amélioration est jugé très important dans ce domaine. Six critères d'audit ont été élaborés pour permettre aux médecins de s'évaluer. L'audit a comporté deux tours. L'analyse des résultats d'audit des 70 médecins généralistes participants montre que l'expérience est efficace pour améliorer les pratiques. En outre, cette méthode se révèle compatible avec l'exercice libéral de la médecine, et acceptable pour les participants. Cependant, une méthodologie rigoureuse et standardisée est nécessaire pour envisager une généralisation.
