Playing with Sheet Music is a series of accessible textbooks for music lovers of all ages. In this third book, you'll learn to recognize metre and rhythm. With the use of the carefully constructed exercises in this book, you'll practice the lengths of notes and rests, and rhythmic patterns. Also, you'll be able to recognise and play various time signatures.


The exercises are focused on practice. You'll practise playing with both hands and with fingering, starting off with simple exercises. Soon you'll become familiar with rhythms that are often used in popular and classical music. At the end of the book, we pay attention to repetitions, and reading and playing longer pieces of music. After completing this book, you will have all the basic skills to be able to play the most commonly used time signatures and rhythms off sheet music.


Learn to Read and Play Rhythm is a reliable method for anyone who wants to master metre and rhythm. The exercises are pleasant to do and originate from the practice of music education. Just like Books 1 and 2, Book 3 is also suitable for self-study as well as for lessons under the guidance of a teacher. Abel, Iebele: - Iebele Abel (1969) studied at the art academy. He taught at art colleges and universities. In addition to his his artistic work, he is active as a copywriter and director within his own production agency. He produced meditative music and designed algorithms for computerized music composition. He is author and co-author of several books and articles.

Lamfers, Jacco: - Jacco Lamfers (1970) studied piano and composition. He taught at various institutions for higher music education. In addition to his work as a pianist and song accompanist, he has written numerous commissioned compositions and arrangements.
