Industrial and service energy efficiency has become one of the most important strategies for energy transition. Nevertheless, the promotion of energy efficiency in these sectors remains difficult in many cases and requires governmental intervention, policies, and strategies, such as the Learning Energy Efficiency Networks (LEENs) for Energy Management Systems (EMSs), developed in the late 1980s by Switzerland and adopted by several countries.

This book discusses the experience with LEENs for EMSs in the industrial and service sectors in Latin America. It highlights the relevance and role of enabling conditions and key stakeholders to gather the main contribution of LEENs; as well as the key challenges. The lessons learned in these Latin American countries can be of great interest to other developing countries, particularly for public policies.

Claudio Carpio is a chemical and oil engineer specializing in designing and developing national energy efficiency programs and energy efficiency projects and energy audits for the industrial sector. Between 2000 and 2002, he worked for the Energy and Environment Department of the IADB. Since 2002, he has been an independent consultant and has been hired by numerous institutions and companies, including the IADB, WB, CAF, GIZ, OLACDE, CEPAL and OAS, among others.

Marina Yesica Recalde is an Argentinean energy and climate change economist. She is a researcher from CONICET and Fundación Bariloche, Argentina. Since 2012, she has provided technical assistance on energy policy to different Latin American governments financed by international institutions (UNIDO, UNEP, WB, CEPAL, and GIZ, among others). She has also been a professor in public and private universities and has published more than 20 papers on the field.
