I have been thinking about my impending 60th and how it seems like only yesterday that I was in my teens and looking forward to all the adventures life was going to bring. It seems a legacy of ageing is looking back and questioning the decisions that you've made and the choices that have moved you in a new direction! Knowing that you can't change a thing and learning to live with the good and the bad. When my Mother was living with us in the house at Alexandra Headland - she was about 85 - she told me how it felt strange to see herself getting so old when inside she still felt like the young girl she used to be. We are always so busy with our own lives, working and taking care of our own families that we don't seem to get the time to sit down and talk about our lives before children. All too soon it is too late. I decided that before I too start to forget, I should write a book for my daughters Brooke and Holly - my 2 greatest achievements - to commemorate this substantial milestone in my life. Hopefully I will be able to give them some insight into who I am and leave them with something to remember me by.This book doesn't tell everything but does tell something of my life, love and losses. Some memories will always belong only to me.

Christine Vera Veal was born in WARWICK on the 4/11/1953, the youngest of seven children. In the late fifties the family moved to 177 Cornwall St East Brisbane in search of work opportunities. It was here in a modest 3 bedroom high-set home, she learned the early lessons in life. This story is about that journey, the family and friendships, the tears and laughter that seem to lurk in each other's shadow, waiting their turn to emerge. Most, if not all the readers will be able to identify with someone or something, that brings a smile to your face! Perhaps a tear to your eye, and returns you to an experience of early family life. Christine tells her story with a clarity and warmth that confirms her journey has not diminished her capacity to embrace the simple joy of being alive.
