Dazu wird sowohl das System als auch der Vollzug der Leistungsbewertung an deutschen Schulen und die daraus resultierende Bildungs(un)gleichheit thematisiert. Inhaltlich werden zunächst Begriffsdefinitionen für die Bildungsungleichheit, die schulische Leistung und die Beurteilung dieser, aufgeführt. Danach wird ein Einblick in die Leistungsbewertung an deutschen Schulen gegeben und darauf eingegangen, wie diese im alltäglichen Vollzug gestaltet ist. In einem nächsten Schritt liegt der Fokus auf der pädagogischen und der gesellschaftlichen Funktion der Institution Schule und im Anschluss daran auf der daraus resultierenden Funktion der schulischen Leistungsbewertung thematisiert. Zum Schluss wird untersucht, welche Auswirkungen die Leistungsbewertung auf das Vorherrschen von sozialer Ungleichheit und insbesondere von Bildungsungleichheit hat und welche Kritik grundsätzlich an den gegenwärtigen Verfahren der Leistungsbewertung an Schulen geäu ert wird. Zudem wird versucht Möglichkeiten herauszuarbeiten, welche die Schule als Institution und die LehrerInnen als Ausführer der Leistungsbewertung haben, um der Reproduktion sozialer Ungleichheit entgegenzuwirken. Schon seit der Erfindung der Schulnoten durch den Jesuitenorden im 16. Jahrhundert gehören Leistungserhebung und Leistungsbewertung zum Alltag jeder Schülerin und jedes Schülers. Auch für LehrerInnen zählen die Erhebung und Bewertung von Leistungen zum alltäglichen Berufsleben. Aus diesem Grund nehmen beide Aspekte einen sehr hohen Stellenwert bei der Vermittlung von Kompetenzen und Wissen im schulischen Kontext ein. In diesem Zusammenhang zeigt ebenfalls häufig, welche immense Bedeutung die soziale Herkunft der SchülerInnen
