Die leistungsabh�ngige Navigation (PBN), die im Handbuch f�r leistungsabh�ngige Navigation (PBN) (ICAO Doc 9613) beschrieben ist, basiert auf den Prinzipien der Fl�chennavigation. W�hrend es verschiedene Methoden der Fl�chennavigation schon seit vielen Jahren gibt, ist die weit verbreitete Nutzung der Fl�chennavigation als prim�re Navigationsfunktion ein neueres Ph�nomen. Das PBN-Konzept soll den Einsatz von Fl�chennavigationssystemen besser definieren und wird voraussichtlich innerhalb der n�chsten zwanzig Jahre viele der bestehenden konventionellen Navigationsrouten ersetzen.

Die Grundlagen des PBN-Betriebs sind relativ einfach, und die Betriebsgenehmigung muss weder f�r den Antragsteller noch f�r die Regulierungsbeh�rde ein kompliziertes Verfahren sein. Der �bergang zu neuer Technologie, neuer Navigation und neuen Betriebskonzepten sowie die Abh�ngigkeit von datengesteuertem Betrieb erfordern jedoch ein sorgf�ltiges Management.
