Organisationales Lernen ist in der modernen Wirtschaftswelt wichtiger denn je, da sich die Art und Weise, wie Organisationen ihren Erfolg sicherstellen, grundlegend geändert hat. Um erfolgreich zu sein reicht es nicht mehr aus, nur effizient mit Ressourcen umzugehen und zu handeln, sondern auch Fähigkeiten wie Kreativität, Anpassungsfähigkeit, Erfindungsreichtum, aktives Wissensmanagement und das Streben nach Innovation sind heute unerlässlich. Das Organisationale Lernen wird damit zu einer strategischen Ressource erhoben, die entscheidend für den Unternehmenserfolg ist. Weiterhin wird eine erfolgreiche Marktorientierung zunehmend im Zusammenhang mit einer Lernorientierung im Unternehmen gesehen und schlie lich wird der Art der Führung beziehungsweise des Leadership eine tragende Rolle bei der Gestaltung einer Lernenden Organisation zugeschrieben. In dieser Arbeit soll folglich untersucht werden, ob eine stärkere Lernorientierung in Unternehmen zu einer höheren Business Performance führt (H1), ob eine stärkere Marktorientierung seitens der Unternehmen auch eine stärkere Lernorientierung bedingt (H2) und ob Transformatives oder Transaktionales Leadership einen positiven Effekt auf die Lernorientierung in Unternehmen haben (H3). Die empirische Studie von Farrell (2000), welche unter anderem die beschriebenen Zusammenhänge untersucht, liefert dabei folgende Ergebnisse: Die Lernorientierung in den untersuchten Unternehmen hat einen signifikant positiven Einfluss auf ihre Business Performance. Ein positiver Effekt von Marktorien
