La conduite du Sage La conduite extérieure du Sage doit être conforme à ces préceptes de sa vie intérieure. Il doit, en effet, puisqu'il est contraint à vivre, vivre le moins possible, c'est-à-dire n'entrer en lutte, ni avec les autres, ni avec lui-même; ne pas entrer en lutte avec les autres, c'est s'effacer (pour leur laisser la place); ne pas entrer en lutte avec soi-même, c'est n'avoir pas de passions. Pour le Sage, sa lumière, son action, ses mérites, son ardeur sont intérieurs; et il doit montrer aux autres un extérieur précisément opposé; aussi il ne porte d'ombrage à personne; et, n'étant envié ni utilisé par per-sonne, il peut consacrer toutes ses forces et tout son esprit à se conformer à son destin. Et il l'atteint inévitablement. C'est ainsi que tout ce qui se veut courbé demeure intact, et que tout ce qui est intact parvient à la Voie. Le présent volume se compose des cinq traductions et commentaires suivants: Commentaire du Tao, de Laotseu Commentaire du Te, de Laotseu Le traité des influences errantes, de Quangdzu Les sept éléments de l'homme et la pathogénie chinoise Le taoïsme et les sociétés secrètes chinoises Note à propos de l'auteur Matgioi (1861-1939) Georges-Albert Puyou de Pouvourville occupa des fonctions militaires et administratives en Chine. Ses séjours prolongés au Tonkin lui permettent de pénétrer l'esprit chinois. Il rencontre alors un maître taoïste qui le prépare à recevoir l'initiation dans une société secrète chinoise. Une fois initié, Albert de Pouvourville prend le nom de Matgioi, oeil du jour . Matgioi revient ensuite en Occident et entreprend de diffuser l'enseignement du taoïsme, à l'encontre des orientalistes. Il expose ainsi, notamment dans la Voie métaphysique, les doctrines taoïstes, au point de vue principiel comme dans leurs applications diverses. Matgioi est également connu pour avoir initié le métaphysicien René Guénon au taoisme.
