Library and Information Science (LIS) is a dynamic subject and a noble profession which has the prime objective of informing and enlightening the people in various walks of life.
This book is a commemorative volume brought out on the eve of retirement of Dr. Jalaja V., Associate Professor and Head, DLIS, from the University of Calicut. Eminent LIS professionals and teachers have contributed to this volume. It is a collection of 26 scholarly articles written by well experienced practitioners in LIS and eminent teachers. The articles focus on the current developments in Library and Information Science and Information Technology.
The articles are grouped into seven parts. Part I, Digital Library, contains three articles on digital library software and the practical experience in Digital Library. Part II, Web 2.0 and Information Professionals, includes five articles covering the various tools and techniques and components of Web 2.0. Part III, Library Professionals and Professional Associations, contains three articles relating to role and professional requirements of LIS professionals and professional associations. Part IV, Public Libraries, has two articles which are based on the practical experience and research study. Part V, Information Users and User Studies, contains six research papers on various information user groups and their use of a variety of information sources. Part VI, Library Provisions and Access Possibilities, with four papers, discusses various modern information sources provided in the libraries and the tools and techniques related to them. Part VII, The Open Source Philosophy, contains three informative articles relating to various open source application possibilities.
The volume will prove to be a good contribution in the field of Library and Information Science and will add more information to the existing treasure of knowledge in LIS.

Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai is presently working as Assistant Librarian at Central University of Kerala and holding charge of the University Library of CUK. He completed his postgraduation in Economics from University of Calicut in 1986, BLISc from University of Kerala in 1990 and MLISc from University of Calicut in 1995 (with First Rank). He was awarded Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from University of Calicut in 2004. He has Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application and English Communication, and has cleared NET in Library and Information Science. He is a Research Guide in Library and Information Science in Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala and a resource person in a number of institutions. He is a member of many professional associations like ILA, IASLIC, KLA and KELPRO. He has published 34 research papers and edited one book. He has presented papers in several national and international conferences.
T.M. Vasudevan is presently working as Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calicut. He received his MLISc from University of Kerala in 1993 and M. Phil in Library and Information Science from University of Calicut in 2009. He has also cleared JRF in Library and Information Science. He has more than 16 years of experience of teaching in LIS at the postgraduate level. He is a member of the Academic Council of University of Calicut and Board of Studies in Library and Information Science. He is a member of many professional associations like ILA, KLA and KELPRO. He has attended 11 conferences at the national level and published 7 research papers.
