El movimiento del Libro de Artista en México, del cual trata este libro, se desarrolló en la década de los años setenta como consecuencia de circunstancias complejas en consonancia con el espíritu de la época. Cocina Ediciones inició sus actividades a finales de 1970 por los artistas Yani Pecanins, Walter Doehner y Gabriel Macotela. Fue la más desarrollada de las pequeñas editoriales que proliferaron en todo este tiempo y contó con una extensa red de colaboradores, artistas y escritores, nacionales e internacionales. Cocina, según Wendy Woon (2016) es un término asociado con un interesante referente que por un lado alude a la calidad de aquello hecho en casa, y por otro evoca un dominio vinculado típicamente con las mujeres; no es casual que el discurso de género y la obsesión personal por la calidad ocuparan un lugar destacado en muchos de los libros ahí realizados. Yani Pecanins estudió encuadernación en Barcelona y sus libros están influenciados por su tendencia a recoger y coleccionar objetos pequeños y peculiares. Muchos de sus libros tienen acabados en diversos materiales, tales como pañuelos en aros de bordado, planchas y cajas. En 1985, Pecanins, Macotela y el artista y museógrafo Armando Sáenz Carrillo fundan El Archivero (el Archivo o Fichero archivador), un proyecto de más de una década que se transformaría en el centro más importante para los libros de artista en México, modelo que es analizado en este texto. El Archivero conjuntó actividades como editorial, galería, librería, acervo, a la vez que buscaba y promovía mercados para esta forma de arte alternativo. Un viaje en Zeppelin (1988) es uno de los libros más complejos de Yani Pecanins, hecho a mano, tiene una edición de cien ejemplares; llegó a la colección de libros de artista del MoMa a través del exdirector de la biblioteca Clive Phillpot, quien tuvo un apasionado interés por los libros de artista. Se trata de una obra cuya narrativa visual y poética recurre a innumerables elementos y materiales que se fusionan en una serie de "variaciones imaginativas" que cuentan la historia de la familia Dohener que viajaba en el Hindenburg cuando explotó en Nueva Jersey, catástrofe de la que sobrevivieron la abuela, tíos y el padre de Yani. Las evocaciones, una de las singularidades características de las obras de la artista, siempre invocan las memorias y despiertan las interpretaciones. Wendy Woon.
