To be human is a great experience but being human with all of its pleasure brings some pain. We are all inevitably prone to scrapes, bruises, sprained joints, headaches and all manner of discomfort. Most of us know some first-aid measures for these physical problems. We have band-aids, aspirin and vitamin supplements, and drug store counters full of self-help remedies. But just as we all have some physical problems from time-to-time, so do we all experience emotional bumps and bruises. We get anxious, depressed, lonely and jealous, and a whole spectrum of unpleasant feelings. In "Life Ain't for Sissies," Dr. Sugarman gives us variable first-aid tips that address some of the common emotional disorders and personal problems arising from our competitive, demanding and stressful world. Anxiety, boredom and clinical depression - the common colds of emotional disorders - get a full examination without paying the hourly rate. Dr. Sugarman's valuable tips and suggestions can help avoid more serious pain and costly problems down the road. Some patients who are already receiving help from qualified mental health professionals have suggested to them that they read and learn from "Life Ain't for Sissies." They have found that the suggestions and advice based on important research and clinical experience can provide first-aid as well as maintenance of emotional health.
