Her sixties have been the most satisfying time of McGlone's life. The daughters are grown, the grandkids are delightful, and she has escaped the surly bonds of full time employment. We showed our children how to be a spouse, parent, grandparent and teacher. Now it's time to show them how to retire after working so hard." Julie and her husband Charles have been sweethearts since they were sixteen. They have travelled the globe, and Julie always manages to find a writing, cooking or art class. Her new favorite quote is "Life begins when you get out of your comfort zone." That is exactly how she operates-in the deep end, always seeking new challenges. One day she said to her husband, "Did you ever notice that artists are eccentric and writers are ditzy?" He didn't skip a beat. "Yes, I'm married to both of them." Nothing gives her greater pleasure than working on art projects with her grandchildren. On one occasion, three-year-old Katie drew the most colorful fish. Julie showed her how to paint watercolors over the crayon resist. Beaming over her accomplishment, Katie climbed on a chair and got a cup of water. Then she poured it on the fish, the paper and the dining room table. In the calmest voice she could muster, Julie asked the budding artist why she did that. "It has to live!" Who could argue with that logic?
