Yom ersten Band der "lechnischen Schwingungslehre", der die Schwinger von einem Freiheitsgrad behandelt, war die erste Auflage im Jahre 1938, die zweite im Jahre 1951 erschienen. Beide Auflagen waren jeweils recht bald nach ihrem Erscheinen ausverkauft und somit wieder yom Markt verschwunden. Der Band steht im Antiquariatshandel seit Jahren hoch auf der Desideratenliste. Die dritte Auflage wird hier nun erst nach rund 25 Jahren vorgelegt. Die zweite Auflage ein- fach unverHndert zu reproduzieren, ging nicht an: Eine Schwingungs- lehre auch nur des "einfachen Schwingers" darf sich nicht mehr mit den linearen VorgHngen begnUgen; die nichtlinearen bilden nun schon seit vielen Jahren einen wesentlichen Bestandteil des Stoffes, den der Benutzer braucht und sucht. Diese Feststellung begrUndet auch das Anwachsen des Umfangs, der sogar dazu zwang, den ersten Band jetzt in zwei Unterteile zu zerlegen: leil A enthHlt die linearen Schwinger, leil B die nichtlinearen. Wie die frUheren Auflagen wendet sich auch diese an Benutzer, die eine verstHndliche, systematische, verlHBliche und genUgend ausfUhrliche Unterrichtung vor allem Uber mechanische Schwingungen suchen. Es sind dies insbesondere die Maschinen- und Bau- ingenieure und die technischen Physiker. Es gibt viele, vor allem einfUhrende BUcher Uber Schwingungsprob- leme. FUr den interessierten Benutzer hHren die meisten jedoch "zu frUh auf". Das vorliegende Werk solI ihm auch dann noch weiterhelfen, wenn seine Probleme uber die in den meisten LehrbUchern gezogenen Grenzen hinausreichen.
