It also provides a critical discussion of the uncertainties, assumptions, and resolution issues that are inherent in the different methods and models of the lithosphere. Multidisciplinary in scope, global in geographical extent, and covering a wide variety of tectonics settings across 3.5 billion years of Earth history, this book presents a comprehensive overview of lithospheric structure and evolution. It is a core reference for researchers and advanced students in geophysics, geodynamics, tectonics, petrology, and geochemistry, and for petroleum and mining industry professionals.

Artemieva, Irina: - Irina Artemieva is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She was awarded an M.S. in Physics from Lomonosov Moscow State University, a Ph.D. in Geophysics from the Institute of Physics of the Earth, Moscow and a Dr Science (Dr habil.) degree from the University of Copenhagen. Professor Artemieva has worked as a researcher at the Russian/USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow, at the Universities of Uppsala (Sweden) and Strasbourg (France), and at the United States Geological Survey in California. She was Science Co-ordinator of the European Science Foundation/International Lithosphere Program EUROPROBE study 1999-2001. She is also a member of the Natural Sciences Research Councils in Ireland and Sweden, and the Academia Europaea, and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, London.
