L'arachide, Arachis hypogea Linnaeus, est une importante culture de graines ol�agineuses originaire d'Am�rique du Sud. Elle est �galement connue pour ses graines comestibles � haute teneur en huile, qui constituent ainsi la quatri�me source d'huile comestible au monde. L'huile d'arachide est comestible et est donc largement utilis�e pour la cuisson, tant sous forme d'huile raffin�e que de ghee vanaspati. Plus de 100 esp�ces d'insectes qui infestent les arachides stock�es sont signal�es dans les documents. Environ 6 � 10 % des arachides sont d�truites par des insectes ravageurs stock�s dans des sacs. C. cephalonia, commun�ment appel�e "pyrale du riz" ou "mite de la farine", appartient � la famille des Pyralidae et � l'ordre des L�pidopt�res. La pyrale du riz, C. cephalonica, cause non seulement des probl�mes d'hygi�ne dans les entrep�ts, mais elle nuit �galement � la qualit� et � la quantit� des produits de base. La larve blanc cr�me commence � se nourrir des grains imm�diatement apr�s l'�closion. La larve endommage les aliments stock�s en se d�pla�ant, en se nourrissant et en laissant des fils de soie qui forment ensuite une toile dense et r�sistante. La nymphose a lieu soit dans la source de nourriture, soit dans les sacs, soit dans les fissures des structures de stockage. Le cycle de vie de la teigne du riz dure environ 4 jours.
