White Face, Charmaine: - Charmaine White Face, Oglala Tetuwan de la Gran Nación Sioux, fue influenciada desde su infancia por su abuela paterna, quien le enseñó sobre los tratados entre Estados Unidos y su nación, así como sobre las diferencias culturales. Es una de las pocas miembros de su tribu con un título en ciencias, especializándose en Biología y Ciencias Físicas en 1973. Ha enseñado ciencias ambientales a nivel universitario y ha sido lideresa comunitaria durante treinta años, trabajando como voluntaria y profesional en organizaciones ambientales y como administradora en la reserva india de Pine Ridge. Ha sido columnista política y autora del libro "Testimony for the Innocent". Sus escritos han abogado por la reforma política, la justicia social y la protección ambiental. En 1994, el Consejo de los Tratados de la Nación Sioux la designó como portavoz vitalicia, cargo que asumió en 2004. Desde 2002, participa en la ONU defendiendo los derechos de la Gran Nación Sioux y otros pueblos indígenas, incluyendo una huelga de hambre en 2004. Fundó Defenders of the Black Hills, una organización que lucha por la justicia ambiental y la restauración del medio ambiente.
