Jules Johnson had allowed the demons of her past to control her life for so long, that she almost forgot how to feel anything other than anguish. She had been abused in so many ways that loving herself or anyone else for that matter was something that she didn't think she could do. That is until she spirit decided that enough was enough. This book is an open account of the pain that she had been harboring for so long and how it has affected her throughout her life. It's a transparent account of how deeply such issues as sexual abuse, physical abuse and abandonment can cut into a person's soul and create feelings of unworthiness, self-doubt, and internal chaos. Each chapter is set to address the different emotions that she has had about herself and how she has had to face them head on in order to shed years of negative weight. She is very open and honest about the trials she has endured and begins to comprehend the significance of her journey and how she had to embrace this transitioning in her life. For such a long time, she was just going through the motions of life, day in and day out, as if she was lost, little did she know that she had to go through the wilderness to get to the valley of love and peace for self. Jules Johnson struggles with letting go of the past, afraid that if she let's go, it will allow for the same situations to happen. She has built a wall over decades that has permitted her to be numb to positive emotions, to push people away. She believed that being vulnerable with a weakness instead of seeing it as an opportunity to plant a seed of love and watch it grow. She realized that she could no longer fight or try to forget her past, but find meaning in it. And she begins to pull back the layers of shame, guilt, and self-pity, a new found feeling began to emerge, self-love. This was new, exciting, yet very scary because this level of passion was new and not sure if it was deserving. This book is about her accepting the past for everything that it is but allowing those pains to lead the way to discovering her purpose. The battle between the mind and spirit is a tough one, and is ongoing but she has learned to be at peace with her demons to the point that they no longer run her life but are reminders to keep looking forward because the past is just that.
Jules Johnson was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She moved around a lot as she was growing up and never really felt like she belonged. So, in her early twenties, with daughter in tow, she packed up with no job, just a car, a baby and some savings, moved to Atlanta, Georgia with the hopes of finding some place to call home. The opportunity to set roots down allowed Jules to stop running from the pain of her past and eventually step into her purpose. With her daughter and son watching her closely, she began to deal with her issues of being the victim of sexual, emotional and physical abuse, being homeless at one point in her life, as well as dealing with her abandonment issues. With her book, "Lost in the Right Place", Jules exposes the transformation that she endured on her journey to falling in love with herself. It shows you, the reader, how all the years of turmoil almost killed her, but that her spirit was too strong for her to continue to wither away emotionally. Your life will be flawed, you will have failures and you will have to experience some of life's unpleasant moments, but let Jules words be the encouragement you need to overcome the temptation to give up. With her pain, she found her purpose and you can too!
