Dr. Yushonda Midgette's hope is that kindergarten through middle school students will use her book to help them express themselves through journaling, dance therapy, and music to enhance their self-esteem, and to deal with social-emotional and mental health issues that may arise. This important and timely book is written for parents, teachers, school administrators, and community leaders to use in taking a stand for school safety, and against guns, violence, and bullying on behalf of our school-aged children who have been victims. It is vital that affected students know they are not alone. It is imperative that educators, coaches, and parents of both mainstream and special needs children ages 3-12 implement safety initiatives and bullying interventions for the wellbeing of all our kids. This book includes a lesson plan that teachers can use in their classes along with music to convey a positive message of hope for our children.

Midgette, Yushonda: - Dr. Yushonda Midgette was born in Durham, North Carolina, and raised in a family of educators in both North Carolina and Georgia. She earned her BA in communications from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she also received an Outstanding Alumna Award in 2000. She earned her MAT in teaching from Watson College of Education, where she received the Senior SANKOFA award in 2017. Yushonda is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. In 2019, she was honored with an Education and Cultural Award from the Helping Others Foundation. She became a nationally syndicated radio host with Cedric Bailey on the "Afterschool Roll Call" with the Stellar Award-winning gospel station Rejoice Musical Soulfood.In 2013, Yushonda established a non-profit organization called Keeping Kids Safe in School. Her vision for the organization was birthed from the Sandy Hook School Massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. She felt compelled to organize a dance troop, and she wrote a music album entitled Keeping Kids Safe. The organization was designed to advocate for children affected by violence and bullying. The Keeping Kids Safe in School dance troop has been featured on the front page of the Local/State Star newspaper, on WWAY TV 3 Extraordinary People Next Door, Azalea Festival parades, and the Brunswick Beacon, just to name a few. This book was created for the use of journaling, safety workshops, and dance therapy.
