Lucifer: A Theosophical Monthly was a spiritual and philosophical magazine founded by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky in 1887. The publication aimed to explore Theosophy, esoteric philosophy, and related spiritual topics, advocating for the synthesis of religion, science, and philosophy. Initially edited by Blavatsky, the magazine later saw prominent theosophists Annie Besant and George Robert Stow Mead as its editors. Lucifer played a significant role in disseminating Theosophical ideas, exploring topics such as mysticism, reincarnation, karma, and the spiritual evolution of humanity. Despite its controversial title, which symbolized enlightenment and the pursuit of truth, the magazine became influential in esoteric and philosophical circles, shaping the Theosophical movement.

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831–1891) was a Russian-American mystic and co-founder of the Theosophical Society in 1875. Her writings, including Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine, combined esoteric philosophy, religion, and science. Blavatsky's work significantly influenced Western esoteric traditions and contributed to the New Age movement. Despite controversies surrounding her life and teachings, she remains a key figure in the spread of Eastern spiritual ideas to the West. Annie Besant (1847–1933) was a British socialist, theosophist, women's rights advocate, and Indian nationalist. She became the first female president of the Indian National Congress and promoted education and self-rule in India. George Robert Stow Mead (1863–1933) was an English historian, writer, and translator, influential in the Theosophical Society. He founded the Quest Society and focused on Neoplatonism, Hermeticism, and Gnosticism. Mead edited Lucifer and later left the Theosophical Society over ideological differences.
